The event takes place in Rio de Janeiro from March 29th to April 1st and brings together the leading technology companies in Latin America.
Resuming in-person events in the electricity sector, UTCAL (Utilities, Telecom & Technology Council Latin America) held its annual seminar in Rio de Janeiro. The opening ceremony took place this Wednesday (March 30th), with the participation of representatives from companies and regulatory agencies. The event's host, State Grid Brazil Holding, was represented by its UHV director, Paulo Zerbati.
The director spoke about the impact of new technologies on the electricity sector and the existing and future demands. “We have a series of adjustments to make to our networks to meet the demands of new technologies, both related to safety and to new paths we can follow, such as the Internet of Things and so many new devices that may appear in the system and whose extent of impact on both electricity and telecommunications we are not yet certain. These issues take time, but with prior regulation, everything becomes easier,” stated Paulo.
He further highlighted the role of transmission companies within this context of network interconnection. “In the telecommunications sector, the distribution network is very important due to its capillarity, and these networks need to be increasingly interconnected. In this scenario, transmission has this integration function, and transmission companies, such as State Grid Brazil Holding, have great potential in these modernization processes to meet the needs of society,” concluded the director, ending the opening speeches of the event.
Following this, technical sessions began and will continue until next Friday, discussing topics such as cybersecurity, 5G, the Internet of Things (IoT), new technologies in utilities, and others. Among the key topics to be debated at the event is infrastructure sharing in energy companies. Focused on the perspective of transmission companies and regulatory aspects, the subject will be presented in one of the event's panels, this Thursday (March 31st), by Alan Soares, a telecommunications specialist engineer at State Grid Brazil Holding and technical coordinator of the Telecom task force of the Brazilian Association of Electric Power Transmission Companies (Abrate).
