RESPECT FOR THE ENVIRONMENT: OUR GOOD ENERGY IN HARMONY WITH NATURE.

In the State Grid Brazil Holding, we are committed to acting proactively in the global effort to build an energy matrix with lower carbon intensity and greater presence of renewable sources, with the capacity to adapt to the risks and opportunities associated with the context of climate change.

Since the beginning of our operations, we have understood the challenge of supplying a country of continental dimensions with clean, safe and renewable energy, minimizing environmental impacts and contributing to nature conservation.

The qualification of teams and the development of innovation projects are key to this, especially given the diversity of assets – generation, transmission and distribution – and biomes with which we interact in our daily operations.

At State Grid Brasil Holding, environmental management is, in fact, a commitment. To this end, we continually invest in processes and control and monitoring tools to make our interaction with the environment more sustainable, always in compliance with all environmental legislation and guidelines from government agencies.

XRTE: OUR GREEN LINE

Crossing Brazil, from the Amazon Basin to Rio de Janeiro, the transmission lines of our concessionaire Xingu Rio Transmissora de Energia – XRTE are an example of our commitment to the environment.

Its innovative transmission technology based on ±800 kV UATCC and the planning of this route allowed us to overcome the geographical extension of the 2,543 km with maximum efficiency and minimal impact on the environment and populations of 81 municipalities in 5 states – Pará, Tocantins, Goiás, Minas Gerais and Rio de Janeiro.

In the construction of Xingu-Rio Transmissora de Energia (XRTE), this care for the environment and the appreciation of local communities were recognized with the winning of the 2019 Benchmarking Brazil Award.

ALIGNED WITH THE SDGs

Being aligned with the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) defined in the United Nations (UN) 2030 Agenda is a premise for conducting our business.

In all our activities, we seek to build ethical and lasting relationships with our audiences, operational and personal safety, efficient asset management, environmental conservation and innovation as a lever for generating value on all these fronts.

Respect for the environment and communities

The environmental licensing process for the construction and operation of our transmission lines is conducted in a way that ensures the most sustainable relationship with the environment and surrounding communities.

Environmental Impact Studies and Environmental Impact Reports, preceded by public hearings with the population, as well as Simplified Studies, are opportunities for us to highlight the benefits of expanding and innovating the electricity grid in Brazil.

The construction of energy transmission projects is the phase in which the most significant impacts can occur. Therefore, all planning is carried out in accordance with the environmental licensing stages.

More than just complying with applicable legal requirements and those required by regulatory agencies, we seek solutions that optimize projects while minimizing environmental impacts. The precautionary principle is also applied in the social aspect, avoiding, whenever possible, interference in areas with traditional, indigenous and quilombola communities and valuing ethics and transparency in land negotiations, minimizing the impact on the general population.

INTEGRATED MANAGEMENT TO PRESERVE LIFE

Our transmission lines pass through different types of regions in Brazil, with the most diverse species of fauna and flora and land uses: urban and rural areas, agribusiness properties, traditional, indigenous and quilombola communities, native and preserved areas of the Amazon Rainforest, Cerrado, Caatinga and Atlantic Forest.

All this diversity requires clear corporate guidelines and a close look at the realities of each location.

Through integrated environmental management, we promote the preservation of natural habitats and the maintenance of biodiversity in the areas where our transmission assets are installed.

COMMITMENT TO THE ENVIRONMENT

The lines are implemented and operated using the best environmental practices, aiming to preserve forested environments. The impact that cannot be avoided is offset by Forest Reforestation Projects – in total, we have already reforested more than 571 hectares, which is equivalent to 571 football fields.
