XINGU RIO TRANSMISSION LINE COMPLETES 3 YEARS OF OPERATION

Brazilian Ultra-High Voltage System extends across 81 municipalities, from the North to the Southeast

The largest Brazilian Ultra-High Voltage system, Xingu Rio Transmissora de Energia (XRTE), completed 3 years of operation in 2022. It is State Grid Brazil Holding's largest project in the country, with a length of 2,543 km and 4,448 towers, crossing five states: Pará, Tocantins, Goiás, Minas Gerais and Rio de Janeiro. The ultra-high voltage transmission line is the second largest in the world and is capable of transporting 4,000 megawatts (MW) of direct current power.

The investment in the construction of the project was R$1.4 billion. Around ten thousand professionals joined forces to get the project off the ground, overcoming challenges, adverse weather conditions and the need to redesign the original route to preserve the biodiversity of the forests.

After going into operation, all this effort has been yielding positive results for XRTE, which has an annual revenue of approximately R$1.5 billion. The concessionaire currently has 140 employees, approximately 20% of whom are SGBH employees, distributed between operations at the Xingu (Pará) and Paracambi (Rio de Janeiro) terminals, and at maintenance bases along the line. A dedicated team, always seeking operational excellence, with a focus on safety and care for everyone. The team periodically conducts training, improvements and inspections along the entire length of the line. Over the past three years, XRTE has not recorded any accidents resulting in time away from work. Furthermore, the Xingu and Terminal Rio substations have the highest ratings in the holding company regarding occupational safety.

This grand project transmits energy corresponding to 70% of the consumption of the state of Rio de Janeiro, considering the months in which the concessionaire operates at maximum transmission power, between December and May.

Investments in social and environmental preservation

SGBH worked to ensure environmental preservation, archaeological rescue and social actions wherever XRTE passes. There were 500 hectares of native forest restoration, in addition to the preservation of 25% of the total area initially authorized by IBAMA. More than 66 thousand archaeological remains were rescued and analyzed, reinforcing our commitment to protecting the surroundings of XRTE, due to the great diversity of the biome and fauna.

Social issues were also on our agenda. We implemented the Basic Environmental Program for Quilombolas in the municipality of Brejinho de Nazaré (TO), where we contributed to the construction of a community social center and a fruit pulp processing unit. The unit helped generate R$70,000 in income for the community, aiming for a better quality of life for the inhabitants.

XRTE continues on its path to remain one of the largest energy sector ventures in Brazil and a symbol of great pride for the entire State Grid Brazil Holding.
