The Athlon Institute, which is taking eight athletes to Tokyo, has gained support from another company that supports parasports.
The Paralympics are a landmark moment for global parasports and an opportunity to highlight the various initiatives and projects promoting inclusion through sport. This is the case with the Athlon Institute, a non-governmental organization based in the interior of São Paulo state, which has eight athletes competing among the world's biggest names in Tokyo. Projects like this receive significant support from various companies, including through sports incentive laws.
Today, the Athlon Institute has over 100 para-athletes, including world champions, Paralympians, and Parapan American athletes, as well as teams with impressive and nationally renowned results. At the community level, the institute also provides motivational talks, workplace safety lectures, para-sports experiences, and events. All its work is supported by four pillars: Initiation, Training, High Performance, and Quality of Life.
Among the high-performance athletes, the institution will be represented in Tokyo by eight participants in Paralympic Athletics and Goalball, as well as the Institute's Founder and Director, Kelvin Gyulo, manager of the Paralympic Goalball team. The athletes compete in the hope of helping maintain Brazil's place among the major Paralympic powers, noting that the country finished 8th in the medal table at Rio 2016, with 14 gold medals.
And, to ensure the continuity of these activities, fundraising is vital. In this context, State Grid Brazil Holding, a company that operates power transmission lines throughout Brazil, becomes the newest supporter of Paralympic Athletics, Goalball, and Sitting Volleyball. State Grid will support the institution in maintaining these activities, which not only allow it to discover new talent but also promote the inclusion and well-being of its students and their families.
Supporting parasports is another step by State Grid Brazil Holding in its initiatives to promote diversity, inclusion, and support sports and culture. "We are a company that brings energy to the population, and with this partnership, we hope to bring even more energy to paraathletes in Tokyo and to all parasports practitioners. And, who knows, perhaps even encourage other companies to follow suit," emphasizes Anselmo Leal, the company's Vice President.
The Tokyo Paralympics began on August 24 and continue until September 5. The schedule of events featuring athletes from the Athlon Institute can be followed on the institution's social media channels.
