State Grid Brazil participates in AgroVem, in Itumbiara, with a warning about the risk of accidents involving agricultural machinery and aircraft with towers and power transmission lines

Release sent on 04/20/2023

The city of Itumbiara (GO) will hold the 2nd edition of AgroVem from April 19 to 23, with the participation of State Grid Brazil Holding (SGBH) and an intense program, bringing together gastronomy, courses and lectures, as well as business opportunities and cultural activities. State Grid Brazil will be present at the event, bringing its message of awareness and warning to rural producers about the risk of accidents with airplanes and agricultural machinery near power transmission lines.

In a lecture to be held during AgroVem, on 4/21, the manager of the Western Region of SGBH, Juliano Cícero, will give a presentation reinforcing the messages that have already been passed on to rural landowners in the region, to avoid collisions involving towers and power transmission cables.

 – We at State Grid Brazil have already carried out a series of actions to alert stakeholders about the risks of accidents in rural areas involving agricultural machinery. It is essential that we can count on the participation of the local population, including rural landowners and people who work in the fields, to prevent accidents, reinforcing the safety of operations and workers, guaranteeing the supply of energy and reducing the risks of interruptions in supply that these accidents represent to the National Interconnected System – adds Cícero.

The manager of the Western Region details that the actions have been carried out in messages sent to rural landowners in the vicinity of the transmission lines operated by SGBH, through the Social Communication Program (PCS) and the Forest Fire Prevention Program (PPIF). The guidelines include recommendations for drivers and operators of agricultural machinery and aircraft, such as the excerpts highlighted below:

“When driving on the “power line” right-of-way, be very careful when maneuvering vehicles and heavy machinery (tractors and trucks) near the towers and cables. A collision can cause harm to everyone and be fatal to the driver and people nearby. Furthermore, those responsible may be held legally liable.”

“To avoid a collision, the first step is to respect the speed limits on the road, maintain a safe distance between vehicles and fixed objects, keep your headlights on and do not stop suddenly.”

The communication work carried out by SGBH includes efforts to actively search for and communicate directly with helicopter pilots, crop dusters, drone operators and agricultural machinery, who may also be involved in accidents due to collisions with power transmission lines, towers and the guy wires that support the towers. In addition to the risk to the lives of pilots and machine operators and the damage to aircraft and equipment, these accidents may have an impact on the entire population, which may suffer interruptions in the supply of electricity.

Of the 24 power transmission concessionaires in the SGBH portfolio, 10 cross the state of Goiás: Itumbiara Energy Transmission Company (ITE); Expansion Electric Power Transmission Company (ETEE); Serra da Mesa Energy Transmission Company (SMTE); Catxerê Energy Transmission Company; Luziânia-Niquelândia Energy Transmission Company; Guaraciaba Energy Transmission Company; Paranaíba Energy Transmission Company; the Belo Monte Energy Transmission Company (BMTE) power lines and the longest 800kV Ultra-High Voltage Direct Current line in the world, Xingu Rio Energy Transmission Company (XRTE); in addition to Silvânia Energy Transmission Company (STE), a project that is in the implementation phase.
