Press release sent on March 23, 2023.
The event discussed issues related to workplace safety and approved the organization's financial statements.
State Grid Brazil Holding hosted the first annual meeting of the Brazilian Association of Electric Power Transmission Companies (ABRATE) this Wednesday (March 22nd), with meetings of the Health and Safety Committee, the Deliberative Council, and the General Assembly. In the morning, the Health and Safety Committee (CSS) presented the annual occupational safety data collected from its members. In the afternoon, the association's General Assembly was held, where the 2022 Annual Report and Activities were presented, and the annual financial statement was approved. The Deliberative Council also met to discuss strategic issues for ABRATE, with the presence of SGBH vice-presidents Ramon Haddad and Jorge Bauer.
– It was a pleasure to welcome ABRATE, which, with 29 members, brings together almost all energy transmission companies. I highlight the relevance of this event, both for ABRATE and for State Grid Brazil, which can benefit from its representation – emphasizes the vice-president of SGBH and the Board of Directors of ABRATE, Ramon Haddad.
The importance of identifying the causes and preventing future accidents guided the discussions of the Health and Safety Committee during the presentation of data gathered from its members. Of the 29 ABRATE members currently, 23 reported incidents related to workplace accidents.
The Director of Health, Safety and Environment at State Grid Brazil, Ricardo Felix, highlighted the importance of generating knowledge from the analysis of data on these occurrences, and added:
– We have a maxim at State Grid which is prevention, with safety first. At ABRATE we share the concept of “hidden risks,” which are usually associated with equipment failure that could result in accidents involving people. This is an opportunity to create a robust database of hidden risks within our ABRATE health and safety committee. If a company knows about the problem, performs maintenance, and goes through this experience but doesn't share it with others, we lose the opportunity to have this knowledge and prevent the next accident – points out Ricardo Felix.
The data on workplace accidents reported by transmission companies to ABRATE will be used to create a dashboard of Occupational Health and Safety indicators. The standardization of statistical data will allow for the creation of a standard for evaluating the performance of transmission companies in this area.
