Solange Maria Pinto Ribeiro was elected President of the Board. Both will serve a one-year term
The Vice President of State Grid Brazil Holding, Ramon Sade Haddad, was elected Vice President of the Board of Directors of the National System Operator (ONS), at the 11th Extraordinary Meeting of the Board of Directors, held on the morning of Wednesday (10/05). Solange Maria Pinto Ribeiro, Vice President of Regulation, Institutional and Sustainability at Neoenergia, was chosen to be the President of the Board of Directors of ONS. Solange is the first woman to hold the position to which she was elected, in 25 years of ONS. Both were elected unanimously to serve a one-year term.
Ramon Haddad is one of the representatives of the Transportation category on the ONS Board of Directors. He is also vice-president of the Board of Directors of ABRATE – Brazilian Association of Electric Power Transmission Companies. An electrical engineer with a postgraduate degree in Electrical Power Systems and an MBA in Project Management, Ramon Haddad has held the position of vice-president of State Grid Brazil Holding since 2011.
– Being elected Vice-President of the Board of Directors of the National Electric System Operator is both an honor and a challenge. Energy systems around the world are undergoing significant transformation and Brazil has a prominent position in this Energy Transition. The ONS, as the national operator, will be one of the leading actors in this process and the Board of Directors is already supporting the Board in this preparation. Therefore, for me, it will be a challenge that I will have the honor and pleasure of co-leading with Solange, the first woman elected to the Board of Directors – stated Ramon Haddad.
Solange Ribeiro is an electrical engineer with a master's degree from PUC-Rio and is one of the representatives of the Consumer category on the ONS Board of Directors. She is currently Vice-Chair of the United Nations Global Compact Council. Between 2012 and 2017, she was president of Neoenergia, a company she joined in 2004.
About ONS and the Board of Directors
The National Electric System Operator (ONS) is the body responsible for coordinating and controlling the operation of electricity generation and transmission facilities in the National Interconnected System (SIN) and for planning the operation of the country's isolated systems, under the supervision and regulation of the National Electric Energy Agency (Aneel).
The ONS Board of Directors is composed of 34 directors, full and alternate, appointed by the categories Production (10), Transport (8) and Consumption (10), in addition to two representatives from the Ministry of Mines and Energy – MME, two representatives appointed by the president of the Energy Research Company – EPE and two representatives from civil society, appointed by the ONS Board of Directors.
The collegiate's responsibilities include: approving the budget proposal presented by the board of directors, approving and monitoring the investment plan; monitoring and analyzing the board's management; deliberating on administrative management guidelines, plans and procedures, and proposing changes to the Statute to the General Assembly.
