SGCC President Zhang Zhigang welcomed the delegation and stated that Brazil is one of the most important markets for the group
The President of the Brazilian Chamber of Deputies, Arthur Lira, met with the President of the State Grid Corporation of China (SGCC), Zhang Zhigang, accompanied by the Brazilian Ambassador to China, Marcos Galvão, on October 20.
Welcoming Lira and his delegation to the State Grid Corporation of China headquarters, Zhigang said that SGCC is the world’s largest utility company, operating at the highest voltage level, on the largest scale, and maintaining the longest track record of safe operation, while leading the development of clean energy in the global grid industry. Brazil is one of the group’s most important international markets, in line with the corporation’s business approach, which emphasizes “market orientation, long-term commitment and localization.”
SGCC provides transmission and distribution services to 15 states in Brazil and has received several industry awards, including “Best Project” and “Best Electric Project” in Brazil. The Belo Monte Ultra-High Voltage Transmission Project (UHTDC), in which the Company invested, built and operates, has become a model of international cooperation for the Energy Sector.
The social actions carried out by the companies of the SGCC group are also noteworthy. The water desalination project in Rio Grande do Norte, with resources allocated by CPFL, improved the livelihoods of the local population; and the long-term support to the Orquestra Maré do Amanhã, conducted by State Grid Brazil Holding (SGBH), was recognized with the “Best Practice Award for Social Responsibility Management” by the United Nations Global Compact organization.
The foundation of energy cooperation between China and Brazil is solid, and the company will continue to deepen its collaboration with Brazilian counterparts, aiming to leverage its technological and management advantages, maintain the stable operation of its energy assets, provide reliable energy supply services, and promote the sustainable development of the energy sector to inject new vitality into China-Brazil relations.
Lira expressed his willingness to further strengthen cooperation in the energy sector between China and Brazil. Brazil attaches great importance to energy transformation. The Chamber of Deputies has passed legislation to attract international companies to invest in Brazil and promote the development of clean energy. Considering that Brazil's areas rich in clean energy sources are geographically distant from load centers, the construction of Ultra-High Voltage transmission lines is of great significance. He hopes that the State Grid Corporation of China will deepen its cooperation with Brazilian companies in building power grid infrastructure and promoting the development of clean energy. The Chamber of Deputies of Brazil will provide political and legal support to the State Grid Corporation of China to create a favorable development environment.
