Young scientists from China visit EISA members

Brazil hosted representatives from the China-Brazil Young Scientists program, sponsored by the Chinese Ministry of Science and Technology. The agenda included meetings with State Grid Brazil Holding (SGBH), the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), and the Fluminense Federal University (UFF) – institutions that are part of the Electric Innovation and Sharing Alliance (EISA). The focus was on expanding knowledge exchange and international cooperation, particularly on the use of Flexible Direct Current Transmission Systems for the development of the energy sector.

Professor Fu Qiang of Hong Kong Polytechnic University/Sichuan University, one of the first outstanding young scientists selected by the program, and Professor Bu Siqi, also of Hong Kong Polytechnic University, were in Rio de Janeiro from August 12 to 15. Their visit brought Chinese and Brazilian researchers closer together, strengthened communication channels, promoted knowledge exchange, and paved the way for future partnerships.

On August 12, accompanied by the SGBH R&D team, the two scientists visited COPPE/UFRJ to learn about the university, its research areas, how R&D project cooperation works, and the integration of international talent. The following day, they visited SGBH to discuss intentions to participate in EISA, the creation of joint laboratories, and international cooperation projects.

On August 14, specialized lectures were given at UFRJ on the topics “Dynamic Security Assessment of Future Energy Systems Dominated by Renewables” and “VDC-VSC Transmission for Offshore Wind Farms”.

The trip concluded with a visit to UFF laboratories for further knowledge sharing. They discussed systems simulation, battery energy storage, electric bicycle projects, 6G research and development, and the application of new materials.

"The cooperation between EISA members and young international scientists is proof that we are part of a company that also drives innovation and builds bridges of knowledge across borders. Furthermore, it reinforces the positive impact that EISA generates, connecting Brazil to a global science and technology network," said Xie Lili, coordinator of the company's TID area.

EISA was created in 2024 with the objective of establishing a platform for technological innovation and experience sharing to deepen cooperation and communication between institutions in Brazil and China, seeking to improve and increase the efficiency of the energy sector.
